It’s come way too early this year. Last year my annual complain about the heat post was published on June 23rd, that’s nearly a whole month early. The first annual complain about the heat post didn’t happen until July 16th of 2008. Clearly global warming is not just a theory.
To make matters worse I have a sick kid. I’m just throwing that out there because I need sympathy. I’m tired, hot and crabby. I’m going to be so much fun when menopause kicks in in about ten years.
Yesterday the temperature reached 98 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity levels in the tropical zone. I had my heat on a week ago.
Because of the boy’s broken wrist I have not gotten the window air conditioners in yet. Yeah, I could do it but that would mean going into the hot as hell attic and dragging the damn thing down, putting it in a window and all that other stuff. The boy doesn’t have a whole lot of jobs around the house, he is mostly in charge of keeping his grades up so he can get into a great college, get an advanced degree in something and then support his mother after that. At least that is my retirement plan. Luckily we spent the day at the orthopedists office yesterday and he has been given the all clear sign. He doesn’t have to wear the brace anymore and we don’t have to see the doctor anymore. So today he is installing air conditioners when he gets home from school.
Because it is so hot I haven’t got anything amusing to say, however some other bloggers haven’t been hit by the heat yet and have managed to say some hilarious things.
Kathy, from the Junk Drawer, prompted by my last post, tells her story of children starting fires for Jesus.
Margaret from Nanny Goats in Panties has her cute goat on. You can’t stop yourself from saying “Awwww”. This post has also been an inspiration for an upcoming post, can you guess what I am going to talk about?
Don’t forget to submit your photos for Friday’s How Did We Survive post. I’ve already received some hilarious photos. It was pointed out to me that a lot of times these moments of survival weren’t captured on film so if you have a story you would like to share please feel free to submit that as well. This will be a linky love post so be sure to send me your blog URL and your name or moniker so I can link to your blog.
Stay cool everyone!
We're freezing in California. Freezing I tell you.
Have a terrific day. 🙂
I will remind you that this winter was one of the coldest on record, with blizzards all over the northern seaboard.
We even had three freezing days in Houston, and it snowed in Dallas, twice. Not that one can define any long term trend by a few years.
That said, it is shaping up to be a scorcher, isn't it?
Last year we hit 93 degrees in the first week of May and then the rest of
the summer was mild with temps mostly in the upper 70, occasionally in the
80s. I don't think this is global warming and if it is I don't really care.
I know, everyone will hate me for that. I have enough to worry about without
adding the weather to the list of things I have no control over. I'm hoping
this summer will be like last year but the summer before we had about 20
straight days in the upper 90s with high humidity.
If my math is still correct that is about 36C, that is pretty hot. Fortunately for me it is winter on this side of the planet and I have quite some time to go before I start complaining about the heat.
I have no idea what it is in Celsius. They tried to teach the metric system in third grade but even the teachers got frustrated and gave up. Is winter there as bad as winter here?
No, winter is very moderate here, i.m.o. it is the best time of the year in South Africa.
Gah! Sunday night was hot. No central air and the window units were still in the shed. Monday my son carried in one for the living room, stuck it in the window and I installed it. (Yes, this involves lots of duck tape!) Later my ex partner came over to help him install the unit in the master bedroom. I actually got some sleep last night.
I use dish towels to install mine. If someone would stop using my duct tape for their crafts or their reflective pants I could have used duct tape. Damn kids! At least your boy put it in the window for you and that was nice of Anastasia to help him out.
We had frost day before yesterday.
I would take some of that heat.
Gladly.
We had snow not two weeks ago so take whatever heat you need, leave a little but you could certainly take 20 degrees.
I feel your pain! Now, that said, in Northern Cali we are supposed to get rain and cold all week. I have had enough rain (and parsley) to last me a while. I am sick of rain and cold, but in all honesty, the heat is even worse, particularly when you add in the humidity factor. Dear God! Get those AC units stuck in the windows, Baby. It's better to have them in and not turn them on than to try and deal with it in the tropics! So happy your son is better. Now it can be summer!
He has just installed one of the units and the house is beginning to cool down. Yay! I wouldn't mind a good old fashioned thunder storm, those are always fun. Not for the dog but for everyone else.
Thanks for the links!
Am really loving tribal blogs.
Am typing this with 2 year old child crawling on and around my head and shoulders like some sort of squirrel. I wanted you to know that so you know just how seriously thankful I am that I would go through all of that to comment.
Aw, thank you for typing this comment from your phone with a monkey on your back!
Sorry about the heat! Where are you that it's that warm already? Every year we tell ourselves no AC before Memorial Day … and every year we give in … usually in April! We're wimps! 🙂
I'm in Minnesota. The Ice Box of the US. We just had our heat on last week.
It's just wrong. Where are you?
Oklahoma. 🙂
Well, we also had our blazing hot weather here. So hot that Mo and I sat with the garden hose cooling us down! Back to the usual dreary, not so warm weather now though, Well, Bank Holiday is this weekend and we can't have nice warm weather for a holiday, can we?
Funny, all holidays in the US are bank holidays. We've had some pretty nice Memorial Days here in the past few years. I'd love some dreary, not too nice days, this heat is brutal.
I could never take those temperatures. 79 degrees was too hot for us. We had to sit in the shade and have fans blowing in the house!
I'm annoyed by the heat already, but annoyed more by the fact that it's an ice box in my office at work so I have to dress warmly for the office or I'll have headlights all day. Nothing like getting dressed for winter when it's 92 degrees outside.
If you get a padded bra that won't be a problem. Or at least it won't look
like you have your brights on.
I know that feeling. I used to work in an office downtown, and it was so cold, that no matter how hot it was outside, it felt good – at least for a few minutes.
I empathise, the heat in England is quite unbearable at times – it really makes you feel incredibly lazy and tired. Thankfully, this is England, and you can guarantee that next week, it'll be raining every day of the week from dusk 'till dawn. You can also guarantee that I'll be moaning about that as well 😀
We have already had some hot days, but today in the Sunny South, it is a balmy 72 degrees. The 10-day forecast shows most days in the mid 80s. Those temps are all right with me. It is the humidity that drives me nuts.
We had window units and a window fan when I was growing up. Finally got central air in, I think, 1979. When hubby and I moved into our house in 1987, there were 2 window units. We suffered that until the furnace died in 1994, and I said we're getting a new furnace and central air. My what a blessing.
I do know that when it gets hot in the northern parts, it's HOT. We vacationed in NH and ME summers when I was a kid. No A/C and most times it wasn't a problem. Then there's that day that it's so hot you can't breathe and the bedrooms (upstairs) were about 90 degrees. I feel for you!
AWWWWWWW I am SO SORRY you are hot! <snort> Now, to go pull some graphics out of my hot ass.
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know I have no right to complain because I live in SoCal, but I will. It's been cold here. Sure, I'm not scraping ice of my windshield, but I did have to drag the coat out of the closet again. No chance of swimming anytime this weekend…
Oh my god–I thought it was me! This heat is KILLING me!! Well, and all my flowers out in the yard too. They are saying the same thing I am–It's too early to be this hot!
Hi. This is Jake, Nicky's son. She wanted to comment but she is a puddle of water now. Before she evaporated, she asked me to tell you that now that the sun has gone down, it is only 95 degrees with 52% humidity. She feels your pain. Or she felt it. Before she melted.
I'm in Southern California and I have the heat on in the evening and am in layers. Plus there's a fairly good chance it's going to rain tomorrow. This is all just freaky.
Jesus, hot is right. Especially in Texas. I'm dying. The air in my car went out and i'm literally dying. I mean not literally but maybe. Thanks for all the great links, and I say you man it up and get those window units installed. It will so be worth it.
It's going up to 97 today and that no AC unit that I didn't get installed this past winter because I was gonna worry about it later…how the he'll did later get here so fast? Is killing me.
I ask myself that question everyday when I think about bathing suits.
Yup hot here in NY, go from heating bills to AC bills. Never an in between here anymore. Whats up with that?
Wow! 98 degrees already. Normally I would be complaining about that too, but for some weird reason, we haven't gotten hit with the heat yet. It's been raining fer Chrissakes!
Thanks so much for the shout out, and I hope you get your A/C in very soon!
Complain about the heat as much as you want. I live in Florida and I'm moving in less than two years back up North. Palm trees, sand, and the ocean is overrated. I'm such a complainer today. lol
Its been way too hot over here too! Complain all you want. I know I will be bitching about the heat too.
