Today I’m partnering with Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers to share with you the Traffic Secrets 30-Day Challenge.

Today is Day 2 of the Traffic Secrets 30-Day Challenge and the focus is on my dream customer. This is a particularly difficult task because I don’t know who my dream customer is – which is the point of the challenge, to figure it out. So just who am I trying to reach, what am I trying to do for them and how can I create better content for them?

All great questions.

Figuring out who my dream customer – this can also be reader or follower – is is integral to actually filling my funnel with people interested in what I have to say. This blog has evolved over the years. Originally it was just a place to jot down my thoughts on current events, and then it became a place where I told stories about my kids and what it is like to be a single mother. Many of these stories were humorous and that was where I hung my hat. At least until I ran out of funny things to day. This tends to happen when the kids reach a certain age and no longer want to be the star of my blog. I still write funny, but I also include recipes, how-tos, and did-you-knows. Of course, this blog was always meant to be a platform to sell my book.

So I guess the question is, who will read my book?  I suspect the people who would be interested in reading my book, and my blog, are those who lead similar lives – single parents who struggle to care for both their young adult children and their aging parents. They likely have a gallows sense of humor because they have seen some shit in their lives and need to commiserate every now and again – even if it is only on the internet.

I can create better content for those people by opening up again, and sharing the day to day struggles of being a single mom who is going to be an empty nester in the next few years – with all the chaos that brings.

Just writing that out clarifies it a great deal – this is part of the homework assigned in each task. One of the biggest challenges entrepreneurs face is not the product or the service they sell, it is getting the customer to discover that they even exist, that can be super easy using the internet (with this book) or it can be super hard (what I was doing before, not having any sort of road map about how I was going to attract readers).
