A couple of weeks ago I ranted on X (formerly known as Twitter) about how packages of chips are mostly air and how I would pay double for any brand that filled the bag. I didn’t even mention a ziplock function.

I was frustrated, like I always am these days, by the lack of quality control in products I have been loyal to most of my life. The traditional chip companies have made the bags bigger but put less chips in them. It’s common to buy a bag of chips and have it be half full instead of 2/3rds filled like back in the olden days.

I called out the major brands like Doritos, Old Dutch and Lays and got nothing but crickets from them.

There was one brand of chips, however, that was paying attention and they commented on the thread and eventually slid into my DMs.

Masa Chips makes tortilla chips using three ingredients organic corn, beef tallow and sea salt. No seed oils, gluten free and produced in a nut free environment.

Yes, the chips cost twice what a bog of Doritos costs, but worth every penny.

Masa Chips

Masa Chips offered me a 20% off code to try their chips so I ordered the variety pack and with a couple days I received my big box off chips. I got Traditional, White, Blue, Churro, Lime and Cobanero.

All are delicious and then some. So far my favorite is the lime variety.

I served them for some friends this week with my Southwestern Crack Dip and they were a huge smash.

Is crack still the gold standard of addiction? Maybe the dip should be called Southwestern Fentanyl? I don’t know, I’m not up to date on what’s the most addictive street drug these days, but I promise you the dip is completely addictive, and with the chips it’s even worse.

The reason these chips are so good is because they are cooked in beef tallow – probably why the cat kept photo bombing me. Not only does that make them taste better – there is no weird slimy mouthfeel from the seed oils that we’ve all grown accustomed to. It feels good to eat these chips. Additionally, because they are cooked in beef tallow, they are satiating. A handful of chips makes you feel full. Doritos never did that.

I can’t say enough great things about these chips and highly recommend you try them if you’re looking for a better chip, a healthier chip or just want a chip that comes in a ziplock bag. Masa Chips has given me a promo code you can use to get 25% off your first order. Simply click on this link for Masa Chips and you’ll get the deal. Alternatively if you go to their website you can use the Promo Code for Masa Chips  – REDHEADRANTING – at check out.

Give them a try and let me know what you think.

Southwestern Crack Dip

1 cup Mayo

1 cup sour cream

1 can Mexican style corn

2 chopped jalapeños (I had fresh from my garden)

1 can green chilis

Fresh dill to taste – I had some in the garden

Fresh lime juice to taste

a few shakes of the  Salsa & Pico seasoning from Penzey’s (any Southwestern or Mexican seasoning will work)

half a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Fiesta Dip Mix

Mix all together and then do what I did and add a small container of plain greek yogurt because it wasn’t dippy enough and we all need probiotics.

You could eat this right away, but if you let it sit in the fridge for a few hours it’s gets better. May as well double the recipe if you’re serving to guests, this goes fast.
