rain

Image via Wikipedia

This has been a crappy summer. If it isn’t raining, which it usually is, it’s too hot and humid to go outside.  And we aren’t getting rain in small increments, we’re getting rain in 2 inch downpours. So that means my grass is still really dry because when it rains it all runs into the street and eventually into the river.

Because of all the rain I have had children inside my house for the last 6 weeks. Lots of children, or at least it seems that way when they take over the living room with their Webkinz, Barbies and Beanie Babies.

Because of all the children I have spent my days cooking, or at least preparing food, cleaning, and nagging. I haven’t had a lot of time for the internet though I am trying.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I don’t really have anything to write about today but felt it was important to say something. I actually considered lying and telling you that my computer was on the fritz but that would be lying and when I lie I get all red in the face and you can tell I’m lying. So I didn’t do that, my computer works just fine. Of course, now I have jinxed it.

Anyway, while I try to come up with something interesting to say please head on over to some of these blogs to read something entertaining.

The Mother has been writing about motherhood and all things women and medicine for some time now, this series is so entertaining and informative you will need to take some time to take it all in. Her Nefarious History of Motherhood is an ongoing series chronicling the wild and wacky history of obstetrics and gynecology. You will be thankful you live in today’s modern world.

Superficial Gallery is holding a contest that you might find to be a lot of fun called Picture Perfect.

If you are like me you probably haven’t read or seen the any of the Twilight movies, that’s okay because the Fledgling Blogger tells you all about it.

Jennifer has unveiled this years Chipmunk Hotel. It’s quite stunning and makes me feel horrible that I reach for my slingshot rather than build a five star hotel for the rodents in my backyard.

I don’t consider myself a creative writer, I’m just not that…creative. However there are two bloggers I know who are participating in Magpie Tales and they are wonderful. The Cat Lady and From Roses to Rainbows. Both are wonderful writers, I wish I had their talent.

We are having no rain which is making the fire chief male person very nervous. There has already been one forest fire nearby.

Our yummy grass has turned to dried out straw.

It is not good. It is the 100 yr anniversary of the 1910 fire where 3,000,000,000 acres burned in just short of a week. Everyone actually is nervous 'cause fuel loads in the forest are worse than they were in 1910.

Keep your hooves crossed that we make it through without a big fire. I don't think this goat would do well being evacuated.

That's scary. We had something like that happen in the northern part of the state a few years ago but it was in an area that was wilderness so homes were not effected, at least not many of them. I hope you get some rain really soon. I'd be happy to send some your way, we have way too much.

My porch flooded the other day, its 100 degrees and not cooling off anytime soon… thank you for the suggested reading, because there is no way I am going outside (well maybe to the freezer section of my supermarket)

It must be all that global warming. Last summer was perfect, no humidity and the temp didn't get above 82, it was sunny most of the time. We haven't hit 100 yet but it wouldn't surprise me if we do soon, followed by a tornado of course.

It sounds like you are busy, between the kids and Tribal Blogs. We keep getting the same type of rain. Just enough to take out our electricity. I hope it stops raining so you can send everyone outside.

We haven't lost power so I should be thankful. I'm not but I should be. I'm
sorry you keep losing yours, that must suck.

Hey, thanks for the (totally unsolicited) free publicity.

I guess I can't ship my rain to you?

That's a lot of rain! You may have sunnier sunshine, but you also have rainier rain than us!

    • redheadranting July 20, 2010 at 1:21 am - Reply

I'm sure you guys get more rain, this is just a weird weather pattern we are having. And it sucks. I like the sun even if I don't actually go out in it.

I'm sure we get rain more often than you, but rain that heavy is quite
rare. The weather seems unpredictable everywhere now.

Yep. It's been raining buckets – or it's been way too hot and humid over here also. I've totally been blaming the weather on my lack of internet participation and lack of blog posting. Thanks for the linkage. I am off to check them out.

    • redheadranting July 20, 2010 at 1:20 am - Reply

Now that you have a new 'outfit' I expect the whole weather pattern of the US to change.

        *fingers crossed*

I really don't know how much more of this heat-wave / humidity I can handle!

It's 68 degrees and breezy here. We had 2 hot days so far this year (reached 80 degree). That's plenty of summer for me. Leave all them kids and come and visit me!

    • redheadranting July 19, 2010 at 9:41 pm - Reply

I would so love to come and visit you but the county frowns on moms who
leave their kids alone for days on end without supervision. Your weather
sounds wonderful, I bet you sleep at night.

Jen, that's one reason why God made ex-husbands.

Not mine, they won't do it. If they would I would have had a vacation in the
          last 8 years.

Could be worse than rain. Could be 105 degrees like it is here and you're all sweating and you're getting divorced and now you're in a one bedroom apartment and all alone and, well, at least there's porn.

I forgot where I was going with this.

This has been a crappy summer, but August has to be better. Right?

    Right??

    • redheadranting July 20, 2010 at 1:42 am - Reply

I hope so, be thankful you aren't that pregnant during August, that's all I
have to say. Cuz if you were in that last trimester you can bet it will be
      brutal.

We did have a heatwave over here for a time, even the reservoirs were running low but that didn't last long as it's been pouring down now for days.

I think this is the hottest summer ever. Or that I can remember anyway.

    …poor Moooooog

Can't we come up with a special porn fund or something?

    • redheadranting July 20, 2010 at 2:09 pm - Reply

I think a porn fund for Mooooog is an excellent idea. We could have a blogathon for him. I wonder if Jerry Lewis would get involved.

I've been very eager to see the new Tribal Blogs. Tell your kids to make their own snacks and wash their own dirty laundry, so you can get to to work on it. 😉

Summer in NY stinks, too. Same weather. BUCKETS of rain. We've had it for about 10 years now. Global warming, what folderol. But I haven't had time for anything except plaster and lathe and fiberglass and sheetrock…. between the rain and the humidity and the incessant work, we will remember this year as The Year Of No Summer.

    • redheadranting July 20, 2010 at 2:08 pm - Reply

10 years?!?! Thankfully ( I think) we get most of our water as snow rather than rain, except for this year. We had been in a drought for the last decade so it is nice to be out of that.

I'm eager to see the new Tribal Blogs too.

I will happily take some of your rain, but only if it means I don't have to cook.

What are you cooking? I'm reading this post with a hugely empty stomach, and the thought of someone cooking for me is hugely appealing.

    • redheadranting July 20, 2010 at 2:07 pm - Reply

I was under the impression you got the rain after we did. Are you having a dry summer?
I just made a bagel for the daughter who will only eat half of it. Last night I cooked cheese tortellini in a light alfredo sauce which really means I opened a jar and boiled some water.

Certainly hope the rain holds off here in FLORIDA for awhile longer. Hasn't rained since getting here Friday. Will check out some of your links while I cool off in the AC for awhile.

      lol!

I hope the rain holds off in FLORIDA too.

OMG, I am soo going to torment my cat continually in an effort to re-enact the fluff ball episode. And if unsuccessful I wonder how she'd feel about a quick spin and tumble-dry.
I promise to take pictures if I have any success.
(For those of you who read this, don't know me and decide to call animal services, I'm only joking…. I'll probably use my hair dryer instead of the tumbler).
