Big Ass Spider is a movie (a fantastically entertaining movie) about a big ass spider. If you haven’t heard about this wonderful theatrical experience don’t feel bad. Neither did I.
I was looking for the movie Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs II out at the Mall of America and spotted the title to this great flick. Sure, the original Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs was cute and fun but the idea of seeing the sequel didn’t really thrill me. I’ve had it with kids movies and frankly, that’s pretty much all I’ve seen for the last 20 years. The daughter is now at an age where the movie we see doesn’t have to be animated and (thankfully) she’s interested in shows like The Walking Dead, The Hunger Games and other post apocalyptic stories.
I’m so proud!
Upon learning of this great feature film I immediately watched the trailer. The daughter happened to be in the room and announced that that was the movie we were going to be seeing today. By the looks of the theater only one other person had that same thought.
Yes, there were only three people in the theater, which is a great way to view a movie.
Anyway, back to the Big Ass Spider! movie review*.
Big Ass Spider! isn’t post apocalyptic but it could be if not for the talents of Alex and his sidekick Jose. Alex is your typical pest and critter exterminator. We don’t get a whole lot of his background but we learn he is a nice guy with a big heart.
A giant alien spider escapes from a military lab and rampage the city of Los Angeles. When a massive military strike fails, it is up to a team of scientists and one clever exterminator to kill the creature before the city is destroyed.
He’s called in to remove an unwanted pest on his day off and in lieu of getting paid he accepts a fruitcake as payment. Comedy ensues and he ends up in the hospital with a pretty severs spider bite. While in the hospital we learn of some government “accident” and the next thing you know Alex is looking for a much larger spider. The security guard, Jose, is asked to assist Alex in his spider mission.
From their campy hilarity ensues.
This is not one of those movies that is so bad it is good. It’s better than that. I was laughing throughout the whole movie and was equally grossed out at other times. So if you’re looking for funny and scary for the Halloween season this movie is the one you should see.
There are several Easter Eggs in this movie or they might possibly just be goofs. I’m not really sure. I won’t reveal them now since clearly no one has seen this movie except my daughter and myself.
This is a great movie and you should see it but it probably won’t be in theaters beyond this week if no one goes to see it. Make an effort to see this really funny and entertaining flick.
* I do a lot of movie reviews for this blog. When I do I am comped with tickets. That doesn’t in any way change my opinion of the movie. I was not asked to review this movie. I saw this on my own, paid for it and just wanted to get the word out at how wonderfully amazing this movie was. Go see it before it’s gone. It will still be good when it’s On Demand, Netflix and on DVD or Blu Ray but it is so much better on the big screen.
That is a Big Ass Spider. I’ve never seen a recipe with “spider eggs” in it.
Might be good?
