For the last few weeks I’ve been writing about a new way of eating I’ve been trying (again) You can read the first post here, and the second one here. This week I’m sharing the progress I’ve made by following the program set forth in Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion.

My goal was not so much to lose weight, but to feel more energetic. I don’t know about you, but at this age *cough 50s* my day is filled with pain. It’s a slow growing pain, one you don’t realize is there until you squat down to get something the dog chewed up and you realize you can’t get up without considerable struggle.
I’m too young to feel the way my grandparents did in their 80s.
I also knew my eating habits had gotten pretty lax. The pandemic has been a huge help in getting me back to choosing healthy meals that I prepare rather than going out and grabbing something prepared by either a grocery store or fast food restaurant. Always Eat After 7, has also been helpful because there are so many great recipes that are super easy – Chili Loaded Baked Potatoes anyone? – OMG amazing!!
There’s also a lot of great snacks.
Since starting Always Eat After 7pm I have lost 10 pounds – effortlessly (I continue to do all the good things I was doing before like walking several times a day and lifting moderate weights), but what I am most happy about is that I have more energy and when I get out of bed in the morning I seem to make fewer creaking noises. I’ve also noticed that when I wake up, I don’t want to just roll over and go back to sleep – even for just 10 more minutes. No, I actually look forward to getting up and getting on with my day.
I haven’t had a sugar crash since I started this program.
“Your body follows a circadian rhythm—an internal metabolic clock—in which hormone levels fluctuate throughout the day. Cortisol is one of these hormones. Under normal circumstances, it is naturally elevated in the morning to get you alert and ready to go. Over the course of the day, it naturally falls. As cortisol drops, the sleep hormones, melatonin and serotonin, rise. They, along with growth hormones, support nightly healing and repair, helping us look and feel younger.”
I’ve also noticed that around 9pm I start to get sleepy. Before, that’s when I usually got my second wind and I would end up staying up too late, and then dragging when morning came. Paying attention to my body’s circadian rhythm has been hugely helpful in feeling better and more energized. Instead of fighting my body, I now accept that it knows what it needs best. Now I listen to it and feel better for it.
While it has been a bit difficult to get used to the idea that it is okay to eat after 7pm, that’s when I’m most hungry. By allowing myself to eat after 7pm I have not trouble staying on the diet because I don’t need willpower to succeed.
The Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of a 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, and The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good. I’m still in the main phase.
If you’ve been looking for a program that allows you to eat during the evening and still lose weight I encourage you to give Always Eat After 7pm a try. If your looking to feel better, and more energetic I really encourage you to give this a try. Also, it’s got tons of delicious recipes that are not only indulgent, but also really tasty.
