When I was a kid we had four channels on the television. We had the three networks and public television. Most kids today have no idea what that is like, nor what it is like to get up and have to change the channel by hand.
Even though there were only four channels I still managed to spend most of my free time watching tv. I didn’t care what was on as long as there was something on.
We were rarely allowed to watch tv before school but occasionally but for some reason I have a very vivid memory of watching this while eating breakfast. We must have had a snow day or something.
Casey Jones was a local kids show. It played for years. It wasn’t considered educational, just entertaining.
Notice the Scandahovian accent. This is the same accent used in the movie Fargo. We pretty much talk like this.
That’s hysterical. I watched “Romper Room” — in black and white. Thanks for reminding me how freakin’ old I am…

I have fond memories of our local station (WGN) playing its Christmas specials: “Hardrock, Coco, and Joe” and “Suzy Snowflake.” But they were nothing like this guy.
I know exactly what having only 4 channels is like! I think we were the only family I knew who didn’t have cable. Even my GRANDMA had cable, although she pretty much only watched the Weather Channel.
That guy’s “winter underwear” only has short sleeves. That’s hardcore! You people who live places that actually get snow remind me how much of a pansy I am when it comes to cold weather.

What are you doing… the next thing you know, Moooooog will be doing a remake of this! (With Dufus on the accordion, no doubt.)
I actually went without TV for a while when I was kid because my dad got laid off, we moved and we couldn’t afford one. He used to say we’d get one when his ship came in, which it finally did.
Today, of course, I own two large flat-screens and subscribe to something like 150 channels. Incredible!
I just watched the video. It’s so bad, it really makes me wonder how TV survived its early years. 🙂

MY EYES!!!!
Wow that is frightening. Almost as bad as the Romper Room lady. I am SO grateful for the placement of the scarf in front!
Jen, I want to send you a copy of this year’s original Christmas story for your little girl. It is titled “Barney the Christmas Basset” and is Mrs Casey approved. Drop me a line at ct.casey@ymail.com for where I can send it. Thanks, and Merry Christmas!
We had FIVE channels when I was little!
I’ve never seen anything quite like this….so thank you(?)
Merry Christmas!!
I had black and white TV when I was a kid. I remember when the first color TV came to the house. Also remember Romper Room. *sigh*
Wishing you, your family and all your readers a very Happy Holiday from your friends at Man Over Board 🙂
