I don’t need another way to socialize with my friends online. I have my blog, Facebook, Twitter, my reader, email, linkedin (which I don’t use), Friend Feed (which I don’t use either), and the list could go on.
What the hell am I supposed to do with Google Buzz?
I use gmail and I work hard to clean out my inbox. Currently I have 897 emails in my inbox and I have spent the better part of the day trying to go through them and clean them up. I empty my spam folder daily. I hate seeing (23) next to any of my email boxes. Now I have Buzz and the number between the parentheses is constantly going higher and higher. All I need to do to clear it is click on it but when I get there I see people I know, one guy specifically, who are prattling on about one thing or another, usually followed by a link.
I’m sure I will find a way to annoy the hell out of everyone by broadcasting my blog to all of my Buzz followers but for now I don’t really know what I am supposed to do with it. Does it replace Facebook? I’d really like it if it did. I lose blocks of time when I go on Facebook so I try to stay away as much as possible. This makes me look like some kind of bitch because I feed my blog into Facebook, people read the post there instead of coming to my blog, make a comment on the Facebook post and then I have to go and comment on it there. If I had a few more hours in the day I would figure out how to automatically feed an excerpt of my posts into Facebook so readers had to leave the safety and security of the Facebook world and venture farther out into the web. But I haven’t had time so I’m stuck ignoring these people who refuse to read my posts on my blog. Bastards.
I’m not going to try to learn Buzz just yet. I presume it isn’t very difficult to learn, gmail was pretty easy and Google Docs has been a godsend. I need less social media and more hours in the day to actually get the work done that I am blowing off by playing with all these social meda apps.
It wouldn’t hurt if the public school system would hold classes every day during the work week too.
One more thing to keep you busy, lol. I swear that FB used to just post an excerpt (I could be wrong though). Now it seems they want to keep it all to themselves. I think the most recent change is so those that play games have to go back to FB to get to a different app. I swear that’s it. The only other solution (that I know of) is to post your blog posts to FB on your own, thus sucking you in, and redirect. If you find something to do it automatically, please share.

I saw a “tweet” (yea I know I know) where someone wrote that they are getting rid of google buzz b/c google already knows WAY too much about them. I agree. I used to BOW to the google gods. Now I run. They are a monopoly. They manipulate what you see, what ads you see and where you go. They manipulate who shows up where in the serps. They MAKE webmasters change their websites to suit GOOGLE… wait a minute, whose website is it ANYWAY! And now they are showing so much detail under your site name in a search that people can find out what they need to know simply by looking at the google search page rather than by clicking in to your site. Can you say STEALING CONTENT, GOOGLE???

I never heard of it until today. I am staying away from buzz for awhile I spend to much time on facebook and don’t need anything else. LOL
I saw buzz but I can’t say I understand what to do with it. My addled brain can only hold on to so much info. I am still trying to figure out photoshop…I don’t need anything more.

I haven’t even linked my blog to FB because I don’t want all the yahoos I went to school with reading it. I couldn’t talk about them if they did.
I have heard about Buzz on a few blogs but I haven’t done anything with it. I don’t have time for that.

Jen, Baby, you are making me feel so dumb and inadequate too. I don’t know what any of this stuff is except FB. I don’t know what tweeting is, I don’t know what Buzz is, and I dont’ even know what gmail is. But I like the way you talk about it all! LOL.

I post notices of my new blog posts on FB with a link to my blog without the story getting trapped on Facebook. But then, I have a size 4 ass, too. Some of us are just gifted. 😉

Another angle to this whole social networking thing for me is who to be friends with vs. deferring them to the likes of Linked In. Hate it that I’ve felt extremely guilty slimming my Facebook friends list down, but I really want to have a level of intimacy with some – and actually communicate with them – whereas others…
The others may have been people I was closer to because of work. But now that we’ve all gone separate ways, I feel less of a need to stay connected. Ghack! I just want to play Lexulous with someone I know and stay connected to my out-of-town brother through Scramble.
Stupid social stuff… Except blogs and things I’m using to run my business. Of course.

Shelly: If I figure it out I will let you know. I have a feeling I am going to have to do it manually. Which might mean it doesn’t get done.
Katherine: Been reading about conspiracy theories again? I don’t understand how Google works, I don’t believe anyone really does but I do agree with you that they are feeding us what we read and watch. They remind me of the big box books stores that put all the little stores out of business about 15 years ago. You read what they want now. Thankfully ebooks are gaining in the publishing world.
Stacie: Wise idea. I’m staying away from facebook too.
Pricilla: It has nothing to do with your addled brain, it’s confusing, and I can’t really see the need. I’m sure Google will provide that however.
Tracie: I wish I hadn’t linked mine for that very reason. It makes it so hard to write a post when I have to disguise everyone beyond recognition.
Linda: Stay under that rock where it’s safe. Most of these things are unnecessary but many bloggers, myself included, think they help grow an audience.
Jayne: I bow to your size 4 ass and if that is what makes you so smart then so be it. I will have to do it manually.
Maureen: I don’t know, that’s why I was asking. It’s going to be something I ignore. I just wish I could get it off my mail page.

Sasha: I wonder about that too. It seems like a popularity contest. I have 6000 followers on twitter and I don’t have a clue who most of them are. They do visit however I don’t think they stay very long. I created a fan page for this blog so that I could use facebook as a more personal page. Which means I have two facebook pages I ignore.

I have Gmail, I have multiple blogs, I have 2 twitter accounts, I have 2 facebook accounts, a LinkedIn account, Tumblr and Plurk. And I don’t link ANY of it because I’m job hunting and feel like I have to maintain absolute, vigilant control over what is “out there” with my name associated with it because Heaven Forbid some potential employer Google me and find out that I did a “What’s your stripper name” meme somewhere and then decide that I am not the sort of person that they want working for them.
I constantly feel like I have some sort of multiple personality disorder but I just can’t (right now) link up all of the bits of me out there because I have things to say… But checking a dozen email accounts a day does suck up a lot of time… add Facebook and the rest of it and… well, I know somethin’s gotta give once I re-enter the world of the employed. (Which I hope is SOON!)

I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with Buzz, too. I think I’m getting my emails under control – then I log in to Gmail and see all of those ‘Buzzes’ sitting in there. I don’t know, I think I might like it, because, it does allow for more in-depth conversations than Twitter. On the other hand, do I need ‘more’ conversations – or less conversation and more work? Hmm….

I’m exhausted from all of this social networking. It hurts my head. I think that I’m going to go and write a letter to someone. A good old fashioned letter. Nah…I’ll Blog about it instead!
Stories such as this tends to make me personally very heartbroken, I realize it is always cleache to ask if we can all merely get along, but how much more of this stuff are all of us going to endure?
Amy: It is. Disregard my post. I don’t want to cause you anymore frustration.
MsDarkstar: I would do the same thing as you, not linking if I were looking for a job, at this point in my life I don’t care if they find all my stuff. I written so many posts on things that could get me fired or never hired that I just don’t worry about it. But, I’m not looking to find a job. I do hope you find one soon so we can read all about your stripper names.
Lisa Marie Mary: I’m with you, do I really need more conversations? It would be nice if they were in real life, face to face kind of conversations but I think we are moving away from those, at least during the winter.
Leigh: I can’t write an old fashioned letter anymore. My handwriting is illegible and I don’t know how to write without a keyboard. I’d have to find something to write on and with. All I have is crayons and markers and that just messes up my handwriting even more. But I like your determination and intent.
I saw that Buzz thing on my G-mail and thought WTF? For some ungodly reason I have a Facebook account. People want to be my friend though they have no clue who I am or that I own a BB gun and know how to use it. Now I’m supposed to get Buzzed? If it involves gin, I’m there.

This is why my blog isn’t linked up to fb. Fb is already a huge time suck hole. I just spent 4 hours on it and I wasn’t even hardly playing games. I was catching up with someone I knew back when I was in grade school who happens to have the exact same back problems that I do. Freaky!
I will not do Buzz!
I will not do Buzz!
I will not do Buzz!

“I don’t need another way to socialize with my friends online. I have my blog, Facebook, Twitter, my reader, email, linkedin (which I don’t use), Friend Feed (which I don’t use either), and the list could go on.”
Your above-sentence is 100% right on! Look at all the ways we communicate these days. Don’t forget to add texting and instant messages. Sometimes I don’t know if I’m coming our going. It’s crazy and hard to keep up with. Is Google Buzz the same as iGoogle? If not, case and point!
Have to agree with Katherine – Google is God online and it’s gettin scary. Notice how they keep prompting for mobile numbers now – incase you forget a password of course! Yeah. Nothing to do with their phone and (I predict) future network.
I log out of analytics as soon as I’m finished and trying to mix up the search engines I use as much as possible these days but it’s an effort to break the habit.
I think enough’s enough with all the linking and social connecting. So much is BS and takes up so much time it actually prevents real and meaningful interaction.

Deb: I’ll join you in that party. I’ve tried to figure it out and I can’t, my head hurts. I think some gin would be really good right about now.
Lola: “I wasn’t even hardly playing games” Ha! sure you weren’t.
Constant Complainer: I forgot all about texting and IMing, two things I hate because I refuse to write using 2, u, 4, r etc as words. I won’t even respond to someone unless they type the whole word out. I’d really like to communicate over the fence or sitting on the porch, with a drink in hand of course. What happened to talking to each other face to face?
Robyn: I’m already beginning to get strange messages on my cell phone. I don’t know how people know that number but I am sure it has something to do with Google. I have also noticed lately that after I have gotten off the phone (land line) and I go on the computer there will be ads in my google mail for exactly the weird shit I was just talking about on the phone. It has happened many times and it does freak me out a little.
With Buzz and Facebook’s new News Feed, I have officially reached my saturation point. Lately I’ve been fantasizing about writing a status update saying, “Later, Facebook”. But I’m not quite there yet.

Yeah, I saw that Google Buzz crap on my Gmail, like I need some other social media thing that I don’t use like my Facebook. I’m with you, Jen. I’m retired and have all the time in the world, but I don’t want to spend all of it ignoring Farmville, Mafia Wars, and other crapola requests on Facebook. I just want to write a daily blog, do my best at it, respond to my comments, and visit quality blogs like yours.
Google can take their Buzz and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine! Buzz off, Google!

Mike: I don’t think I know how to write a status update. Is that writing on my wall?
Mike: Stop, you’ll scare people. I just looked at my stats (I know, I said I wouldn’t) Googlebot has been to my site five times in the last hour.
Dave: I’d probably use Facebook more if people weren’t always throwing things at me, inviting me to events on the other side of the world and the Mafia wasn’t out to get me.
I have all I can do just to keep up with the blogging, I have nearly abandoned Facebook. I’m still learning how to mess with google reader! LOL!
I’m ignoring it. And I SO beat you in messages in my Gmail inbox! I’m up to over 2,300! I hate deleting things that I *might* need someday. =) I have started deleting all Spam though.
Google Buzz is just another distraction for me! LOL I am not sure my opinion on it yet!

If Google came up with a breakthrough social networking option that made all the others obsolete (kinda like their SE), it would have been worth looking into.
Sadly, they came out with Buzz… meh.

I guess it basically boils down to your own control as to how many of these places one joins. Just added the buzz myself and so far I have not spent a lot of time with it as I am too busy. Twitter and FB, I also have but I do not allow them to control too much of my day. I choose my Twitter fans by the topic they are advertising basically. That keeps my list workable.
I have never cared much for Google nor played their games either…I learned a long time ago about their hoops when I was designing my website and packed that in then.
I also watch so many good bloggers go bonkers when their PR rating slips or their Ad-sense check is low….ect It is so not worth it.
A game life most definitely is~
