I was recently approached by one of the marketing people from GlassesUSA.com who asked me if I would like to review a pair of their glasses. As luck would have it I had just scheduled an eye exam so I was pretty thrilled to be asked to review an online glasses shop. I was given a coupon code and was actually able to purchase two pair of glasses for under $100.

That’s right, two pair of eyeglasses for less than $100.

$87. to be exact, and that’s without insurance.

I have to be honest here, I wasn’t so sure that this was going to be a good review. I worked in an ophthalmologists office for years and knew a thing or two about fitting glasses. It was not an easy task, no one has a completely symmetrical face so there is usually some fiddling with the glasses to get them to sit on your face properly.

I wasn’t sure how that would turn out but I was looking forward to a new pair of glasses, an updated style, so I went to the site and started shopping.

Glasses USA have tons of different styles of prescription glasses, a fun virtual mirror and a 100% satisfaction guarantee. The site is pretty easy to navigate except when you want to go back you lose all your filters and have to start all over again. That got a little annoying but other than that it was pretty easy to sort and filter the site.

I chose two pair of plastic rimmed glasses, which I love because besides making great glasses that don’t leave marks on my nose, they also make great hair bands to keep my hair out of my face. I chose the Hilarie Red (pictured above) and the Joey Blue (below). I just love the names of the glasses!

I hit the check out and then immediately changed my mind. I decided that I should have gotten one pair as a reader instead of two pair of Rx glasses. The problem was, I wasn’t sure. I have readers all over the house. I also ordered a pair of bifocals (ACK!!!) from the optician in town when I got the prescription from the doctor. So I wasn’t sure if I wanted more readers. I did want an extra pair of glasses in the distance prescription because I am always forgetting to bring them in the car with me. I wanted to have an extra pair I could leave in the car so when I had misplaced my regular pair I could still drive at night without squinting the whole way.

Needless to say after talking to someone in customer service and completely confusing them I decided to stick with my original order.

That might not have been needless.

Anyway, the glasses were on their way. I had a little race going, I had ordered my bifocals from Pearle and expected them within a day or two. I chose standard delivery on the Glasses USA glasses so didn’t expect them for at least a week. I assumed the glasses from Pearle would arrive first, and I assumed they would be a better fit.

What a surprise!

The glasses from Glasses USA arrived as scheduled (though the deliver guy needed a signature so didn’t leave them when I wasn’t home. I didn’t know they needed a signature and would have appreciated that information. I would have been home at the time of delivery, as it was I missed them by 4 minutes and had to wait another day). The glasses from Pearle took a lot longer than I expected and it turns out longer than they expected but that’s what happens when someone leaves your frames in a drawer and doesn’t order the lenses.

They fit, they actually fit!

I didn’t expect the glasses to fit. I have a funny shaped head and my ears are not level to one another (is there a better way to say that?). I was happily surprised to learn that both pair fit beautifully. I was stunned and amazed. Here the glasses from Glasses USA.com out performed glasses from a nationwide chain that has been in business for decades.

Color me impressed

I’d recommend Glasses USA to anyone who needs to buy glasses. The ordering was easy, the shipping was fast and the glasses not only looked great but they fit my funny shaped head without any adjusting.
