I’ve got a podcast is like saying I have a nose, or an opinion.
You thought I was going to say something else, didn’t you?
I’ve had a podcast since 2023, but got a little distracted by life and forgot about it. I’ve dusted off the microphone and had to buy an adapter so I could plug it into my new iMac because they don’t come with USB receptacles anymore, and have started making pods again.
Is that what they’re called? I don’t think so, but I like it so I’m going to say it.
I’ve done two so far this week, and I’m hoping to make it a regular thing, I realized consistency is key and I’m not all that consistent.
Here’s a secret for you, I always wanted to be in broadcasting. Aside from writing it was the only that interested me when looking at colleges. They had, and may still have, a broadcasting school here when I was in high school. It was called Brown College, and when I mentioned I wanted to go there my dad assumed I meant Brown University and while he was impressed that I wanted to go there, we both knew I didn’t have the grades to even be considered at Brown University. I still applied, and was immediately rejected. My dad didn’t think broadcasting was a good career choice so I went to the U of MN, a liberal arts college and wasted his money and my time and never got a degree.
Who’s laughing now, dad?
Anyway, I always wanted to be on the radio telling my stories, which is not different than the writing I do, just a lot easier – talking into a microphone that is, not writing – that’s hard.
I was on Mitch Berg’s show last Saturday and forgot how much fun it was. Oh, and I’ll be on Jason DeRusha’s show tomorrow over on WCCO. This will be the second time on his show. I’m grateful for both of these guys for letting me plug my book on their shows.
So now I have dusted off my podcast and am back in the saddle again. My goal is to produce one a day, and that shouldn’t be too difficult, or so I thought. It took me 4 takes today to get 29 minutes of useable audio. The first take I was 15 minutes in before I realized I hadn’t hit the ‘record’ button. The second take I was 10 minutes in when the dog started barking. The third take I was 8 minutes in when the doorbell rang – followed by the dogs barking – and when I answered the door it was the Jehovah’s Witnesses. I shit you not.
The JWs haven’t rang my doorbell since pre pandemic. I’m not sure if this is a good sign or a bad sign. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
