There is only one Golden Girl left. Betty White is the only surviving Golden Girl after the death this morning of Rue McClanahan who died from a stroke at 1am.
Rue played Blanche Devereaux on the groundbreaking series The Golden Girls from 1985 to 1992. Blanche was the over sexed one of the group.
The Golden Girls was one of my favorite shows. The dialog was witty, the characters were interesting and they managed to push the envelope without being tacky. It was a classy show filled with laughs.
The Golden Girls was on when we had fewer choices on television and no reality shows, and somehow television was better. There are only two shows on these days that I try to stop everything and watch, Parenthood and The Big Bang Theory. Shows die so quickly these days that I wonder if Golden Girls would be able to make it on television today. Probably not.
i just realized that sex in the city is a prequil to the golden girls. blanche is miranda.
That was a favorite show of mine too. I really liked Blanche too. She was so…well predictable.
Have a terrific day. đ
The Golden Girls is and will always be one of my favorites. I loved all the girls, but especially Blanche's spunk!
wow i had no idea. i haven't logged onto any news sites yet today and was living in a bubble for a bit since i woke up. how sad đ
Awww…I loved her and that show. I will watch every rerun and laugh like it was the first time.
So sad
Aww, this is sad. đ Everyone I grew up watching seems to be dying lately. đ
I'm sad. Bye bye Blanche! RIP

I am sad.. she is my hero.. I want to be her when I get old…
At least the golden girls live longer nowadays. Much, much longer.
Golden Girls would never make it to the air these days. Even though the population is aging, the network executives are barely out of “Pull-Ups.” They'd never see how good writing and acting transcends age. It was one of the very best and Rue's passing is sad indeed. RIP lovely lady.
I was hoping you would chime in on this one. If my math is correct, and that
is a big 'if' Rue would have been about 50 when she was on Golden Girls.
That's six years for me. The acting was awesome but the writing was was
amazing.
And wasn't Betty White the oldest?
You're not watching GLEE?! Clearly, we cannot be friends.
Being a KOQ, YOU should be…..just sayin'.
Wow… my mom died today, too… I sure hope Mama Larew and Rue are dancing it up, wherever they are. There's joy in remembering.
I'm so sorry, Paula. Been there, too. Big hugs…
She was beautiful and such a talent. That show is forever. I loved them all and every one of them.
I love the Golden Girls. I still watch it sometimes. It's on all the time on We TV and the Hallmark Channel. I'm so sad she's gone.
I agree with you there are not very many good television shows left. I was sad when I found out about her death too.
Thanks for stopping by the Healthy Moms!
Aw man! I like GG too… I got used to her in that role so it was weird when I read that she was actually shy and often felt uncomfortable with the things Blanche would do. She did an excellent job as Blanche though, discomfort or no.
I used to watch that show off and on – they were all pretty spunky ladies! Today's shows are so gross/dirty/stupid… wish there was REAL humor on TV!
She will be missed and she was also very funny on Maude!
Oh that is so sad. I loved that show. I don't watch much TV anymore. I honestly don't find a lot of the humour of today very funny, but The Golden Girls was a hilarious show.
And we older folk liked the idea of watching females even more ancient than we – being called “girls”. PLUS, I relate to Betty White's character and the way her mind works…LOL
Jen, I have some awards for you on my site. Come and get them if you want. Great blog!
Awwww! I didn't hear that she had died. So sad.
I loved the Golden Girls and Blanche Devereaux was my favorite character! I was sad to hear she passed.
