OMG I got to see Donny and Marie at the Flamingo in Las Vegas!!! This was one of those bucket list items that I never thought would happen. And truth be told, I hadn’t considered seeing Donny & Marie (but mostly Donny), since I was probably 12 – which makes it even that much better!!
I’ve been attending the International Builder’s Show this past week. This year it was held in Las Vegas, sadly, I brought the snow with me. What was supposed to be a week away from the cold and snow was instead a week of snow and cold. Not as much snow and cold, but still – I wanted temps in the 60s at least.
It was snowy, grey and cold this week. I packed for 50s and 60s, but the temps didn’t get out of the 40s the whole week. Not the end of the world, I overpack for a reason, but I was looking forward to just light sweaters instead of heavy jackets that would need to be lugged around wherever I went.
I did a lot things in Vegas, much of it for work, but I had a lot of fun too. My BFF joined me for a few days and we did ALL THE THINGS!!
We went to a shooting range and shot guns, we got tattoos, and we saw Donny and Marie at the Flamingo. They’ve been doing this show at the Flamingo since 2008, and this year is their last. After their November 16th, 2019 show there won’t be anymore, so get your tickets now if you want to see them.
And you do.
This was a phenomenal show. It had everything you could hope for in a Las Vegas show (at least the kinds that don’t have nudity). Donny and Marie performed all their hits to perfection. The show was 90 minutes of singing, dancing, and sibling rivalry. While not exactly like their variety show – The Donny and Marie Show – it had a lot of the same charm.
Donny and Marie performed together with a crew of great dancers backing them up. Their band was on fire and the audience participation was a lot of fun. Donny and Marie also performed separately, which was nice. Both of them have done several broadway shows and performed many of the songs from their shows. Donny did a number from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as well as a song from Mulan (he voiced Shang, who knew?), he also performed songs from his mentor Andy Williams as a tribute. Marie brought the audience to their feet with her stunning performance of Nessun Dorma. I had no idea she sang opera, and it was amazing.
The show was all kinds of good, clean fun. The audience was filled with men and women of a certain age (mine) and many had seen it several times.
As Las Vegas shows go, Donny and Marie at the Flamingo is relatively affordable (tickets were around $80 using a discount broker, they cost considerably more at the Flamingo box office so get them online). Cocktails are served from a bar off the stage, but are very expensive so pop a $20 in a slot machine and get free drinks before going into the show (you can’t bring drinks inside the theater). I’m sure Celine Dion and Brittney Spears are entertaining, but tickets to their shows are difficult to get and outrageously overpriced.
Both Donny and Marie have put out albums recently and they’re available after the show for purchase. If you’re lucky, you can snag the autographed cd’s.
There’s tons of stuff to do in Las Vegas, and this show is one of the things that should be on your Vegas Bucket List. See Donny and Marie at the Flamingo before they end this entertaining run, you’ll be glad you did.
