Ever since Apocalypse week on the History Channel over winter break (because I had to watch every show aired), my daughter has been obsessing over the end of the world. She is convinced it will end this year, December 21st, 2012, to be precise. I’ve tried to explain to her that nuts have been predicting the end of the world since I was her age (and in fact even longer) but she is still very worried about it.
I probably made a mistake when I tried using logic to calm her mind about the end of the world. I explained that if the world did end it wouldn’t matter because we wouldn’t be here to know. She didn’t understand it, no surprise there, and only became more frightened.
Anyway, I stumbled across this infographic depicting many different theories to how the world will end. I’m not sure I will have my daughter read it but I found it amusing.
People have been predicting the end of the world since you were your daughter’s age? Seriously, has it been that long?
Yes, it’s true. It’s that long. I remember when I was her age and I had seen something about the end of the world. My dad told me the same thing, they’d been predicting it since he was a kid. I thought well, since he had been around since the stone age he must know. Of course it only takes one of the nuts to be right to make it all end.
Like kids these days don’t have enough crap to worry about. You’ve probably scarred her for life by letter her watch that show. Like my mother did to me when she took me to see “Old Yeller” as a child. Old Yeller died!!!! I still can’t believe it. *sniff*
I was raised with that “end of the world theme” all my life, and I must say, I’m SCARRED FOR LIFE!;-) First dooms date I remember was 1976 then 1984 then 1986 then 1996 then 2000 then 2006, and now of course 2012….time keeps ticking……
