I’m excited to share a new health journey I’m about to begin – and you can too! – I’ve decided to use the diet plan outlined in Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion. I’ve long since quit dieting since they were either too complicated, too expensive or just too hard. I’ve tried all of them since I was a teenager and they all work as long as you strictly adhere to them. That doesn’t work so well when you’ve got kids, a full time job, a life etc.

Getting healthier has been a priority ever since I had kids, but as they got older and we established some pretty bad habits – eating out on the regular because no one has time to cook – getting healthier took a back seat. While I would love to lose a few pounds, I really want to increase my energy and balance out my blood sugar. I am not diabetic or prediabetic, but if I eat something sugary I crash hard. I know, just avoid the something sugary – but sometimes I want a treat *she whines*.

In addition to wanting to eat the occasional sugary thing, I also really only want to eat late at night – something that is forbidden with just about every other diet plan out there.

What is Always Eat After 7pm?

“Always Eat After 7 pm is a three-phase program that teaches you how to lose big by strategically eating big when you are naturally hungriest—in the evening. This may sound too good to be true, but let me assure you it is no gimmick. It’s all about making strategic and smart food swaps, and you can still eat your favorite foods.”

When I was in college I stumbled on a meal plan similar to the Always Eat After 7pm plan. I didn’t eat breakfast because I just wasn’t hungry, after going to school and then work I’d finally start noticing I was hungry around 2pm. I’d eat a large salad with all the macronutrients that Joel Marion discusses in his book Always Eat After 7pm. I’d then have a snack before bedtime. I lost 45 pounds that way (in a few months), without ever feeling like I was denying myself anything.

Of course I made the mistake of going to the doctor and mentioning how I had lost weight and was told how unhealthy that practice was and that I should be eating a hearty breakfast of oatmeal if I wanted to be nutritionally healthy.

That’s pretty much when I stopped dieting (and gained back the weight I had lost so effortlessly).

“Intermittent fasting really shines when it comes to improving the hormones that directly affect your hunger, blood sugar, and metabolism. One is insulin. IF combats insulin resistance, meaning that it helps your body use insulin more normally, thereby lowering your diabetes risk and boosting your metabolism.”

Now that the kids are almost grown, and at least cooking for themselves, I can finally go back to intermittent fasting – which is what I had been doing in my 20s with such success.

So why do I need a diet book if I already know how to do this? Because I’m older, I have a slower metabolism, and I’m used to eating in the morning again and going cold turkey has been challenging for me. Always Eat After 7pm is comprised of three phases that are easy to follow, have science behind the why and the book is filled with a ton of recipes that do all the math for you (that’s my favorite part!!).

Follow along as I share my success following Always Eat After 7pm. If you’re up for the challenge let me know and we can do this together – leave a comment to let me know.
