No. No, we will not be having a white christmas this year. There will be no snow in the Twin Cities metro area this year. According to all the local weather people the chance of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area getting any snow before Christmas is about none. In fact, most of Minnesota is without snow right now and will be for the holiday.  There might be a dusting on Wednesday but the temps are going to be above normal so even if we get a couple of flurries (and no one thinks we will get any snow at all) it will melt before the big man comes down the chimney.

This bites.

According to the local weather people this is not the first time we have had a brown Christmas. In fact, we had one in 2006. I don’t remember it being a brown Christmas, I am quite sure I would have complained about it and I don’t recall bitching about no snow that year. However, that was the year my dad died and things were a little crazy with me taking care of my mom and a three year old and ten year old. I recall drinking a lot that year because it was pretty stressful. I might have missed the lack of snow. I haven’t checked with Jonathan Yuhas to see if this information is correct because since being so wrong about the tulips I’m pretty sure I am wrong about this being my first brown Christmas ever (even though it totally feels like it is).

I’m not thrilled about the lack of snow. Don’t get me wrong, I love that I don’t have to shovel and I even love that it isn’t that cold but still, the lack of snow in Minnesota is just wrong. It looks wrong outside and it’s messing me up. I go outside and don’t use a coat because in my world a coat isn’t necessary unless there is snow on the ground. It isn’t winter unless there is snow on the ground. I wake up and look outside and have to think about what season it is because seeing the tree in my living room and green grass outside really fucks me up.

How the hell do people in warm climates celebrate Christmas without snow? Is it even possible? I don’t think so. Back when my family still acted like a family and did things together we went to Mexico for Christmas. It was great to be in a warm climate for a week and all that but seeing the lobby decorated with a huge fake Christmas tree (pink) was surreal. I’ve been spoiled by living in this god forsaken climate that always provides snow for Christmas. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to be one of those people who lives in the southern part of the nation during the winter months. I need my snow.

Do you usually have a brown or green Christmas? How long did it take to get used to it?
