There were many submissions for this weeks episode of “How Did We Survive”, and I can’t wait to show them next week. Today’s edition is so spectacular that it deserves to stand alone. I’m not even going to make any commentary because it really needs none. However, if you want the whole story head on over to Laundry Hurts My Feelings to get the details.
Behold!
Wow!!!! You are the bestest! Thank you so much, Jen!
And just looking at that picture makes me feel ill. I'm pretty sure I have post traumatic stress syndrome from all those years.
Thanks again. You've made my Friday!
I read your story and can relate to the sledding incident! Some of the hills that were made as 'noise baffles' near new subdivisions (not fifteen years ago) were right beside roadways and when the snow came, kids would come screaming down the hill on their sleds and almost into traffic! Yikes! What were the engineers thinking??
I loved the mountain pics and video – beautiful. Have a great (and safe) holiday weekend!
oodozo,
Thanks for reading my story. it is crazy how we all survived. Have a great weekend yourself and don't play with any Lawn Jarts.
As I am so easily confused, I didn't realize that the “owner” of the picture is hosting the post of the day for the Friday theme (I am correct, right?). No worries if I'm wrong (like being confused, I am often wrong ;-). Lawn “Jarts”?? Heh heh – we called them lawn “darts”, but the same thing(s) still happened – the wayward body impalements, most embarassingly to oneself – then they were finally outlawed in Canada. Don't know if it that is true there (the outlawing part). Either way, have a great Memorial Day and keep away from those Jarts!
I hadn't thought about 'hosting' but Joann jumped in and responded to the
comments which is great because it is her picture and her story. I was going
to add something but it didn't seem necessary since she was the authority.
Thanks Joann!
How in the world is she still here? Pure luck I'm guessing.
Have a terrific day and weekend. 🙂
Comedy Plus,
I wonder all the time how I am here when I see the litany of pictures like these we have from our childhood.
Joann Mannix
My mind raced in my own memories of kids running around with 'dangerous' toys, me being one of them! Have a great long weekend, Jen, and stay safe!
oodozo,
We also had Jarts and yes, my brother, the one with the gun in his mouth, got a lawn Jart stuck in his head once. It is a miracle we survived.
Joann Mannix
So that is how Moms became pinatas!
Pricilla,
Yes it is. Actually, my mom went into labor with me, when those 3 terrorists you see, unhooked the washer and flooded her house. the poor woman.
Joann Mannix
Love this! Fantastic!
lindamedrano,
Thank you. It was a scary childhood, trust me.
Joann Mannix
Im dying laughing right now!
meleahrebeccah,
(I hope I got the name right). I die laughing every time I see it and it was my life!
Joann Mannix
🙂
Thankfully, we were mostly girls in our house, and I was the one wielding a large stick around that I hit my sister on the head with. The gun in the mouth is hilarious!
Babs Beetle,
there were 3 boys and then there were the 4 of us girls. It was just a big old mixed pot of crazy.
Joann Mannix
Two boys and five girls in our house. Same amount, just a different mix. Our poor mums. How did they manage?
This could be a “Caption This” picture for sure. I have a few already, lol. Happy Memorial Day to you and yours.
Man Over Board,
There is a caption. It's called, “Welcome to the ungodly life I was born into.” Have a great weekend.
Joann Mannix
Oh my God oh my God those children are going to bite those balloons and swallow them and DIE! And that kid is going to fall off that stepping stool! If the big underwear doesn't get her first! That one kid is gonna use the stick to kill the baby with a gun in his mouth. AHHHHHH!
I LOVE IT!
Katherine,
This picture defines my childhood. The kid on the stool is actually my mom. She looked like a baby herself. At one point, she had 5 kids under the age of 5. No wonder she was oblivious to the mayhem that surrounded her! Sheesh!
Joann Mannix
That gun is pointed at the baby and it is killing me! I am laughing so hard. This picture needs the PRICELESS logo.
Tamela,
I know, right? You should see some of my other priceless family photos. I have one of my brother standing on a chair while hanging over a balcony and the amazing thing is, somebody was taking the picture, while my bro was halfway over the balcony. I'm surprised I lived to tell.
Joann Mannix
It's the picture that keeps on giving…especially when you think that someone stood there and took a snapshot. Instead of, I don't know, taking the gun out of the baby's mouth?
Domesticated Gal,
Oh, you should see the picture of my brother struggling in the waves, if you think this one's good! Yes, the world I entered into. It's a scary thing.
Joann Mannix
The expression on the bebbeh's face is too funny!
Daisythecurlycat,
It's how we all felt being born into this mayhem. I think the gun in my brother's mouth, says it all.
Joann Mannix
Oh, my gaw.
Gun? Check. Hockey stick? Check. No one older than age 5? Check.
Awesome.
JD, Welcome to the world I came into. Ungodly, ain't it?
Joann Mannix
Hilarious. And my first thought was, I bet these kids all grew up to be criminals. I'm glad I was wrong!
And if the toddler wielding the stick doesn't bottle the baby then whoever is standing atop the stool will likely lose their balance and squash him. I have to ask, but is that a gun he's holding???
Is this a “count the deadly hazards” shot?? Let's see–babies playing with balloons, check. Baby holding a gun to his mouth, check. “Responsible” adult reaching high while standing on an unstable ottoman above the baby with a gun, check. Toddler wielding a stick around said adult on ottoman, baby with gun, and other kid with dangerous balloon, check. Another “responsible” adult who is taking a photo of said mayhem, check.
Scary, Jen. Hilarious, but scary.
