It's the End of the World As We Know It

January 9, 2012

Ever since Apocalypse week on the History Channel over winter break (because I had to watch every show aired), my daughter has been obsessing over the end of the world. She is convinced it will end this year, December 21st, 2012, to be precise. I’ve tried to explain to her that nuts have been predicting the end of the world since I was her age (and in fact even longer) but she is still very worried about it.

I probably made a mistake when I tried using logic to calm her mind about the end of the world. I explained that if the world did end it wouldn’t matter because we wouldn’t be here to know. She didn’t understand it, no surprise there, and only became more frightened.

Anyway, I stumbled across this infographic depicting many different theories to how the world will end. I’m not sure I will have my daughter read it but I found it amusing.

Top 50 Toys from the Past 100 Years

December 19, 2011

While I agree with the overall assessment of this infographic I have to take umbrage that they left off the Barbie Townhouse, Cabbage Patch Dolls, GI Joe, Legos and Lincoln Logs.

When I was a kid I had to have the Barbie Head thingy. You know, the bust of Barbie that was made to put on make-up and style her hair. She was meant to be used over and over again but after you used Magic Marker as eye shadow and cut her hair into a much cuter pixie cut, she wasn’t much good.
